DOSC Sailability holds trial runs at the Volvo Ocean Race Village

The first weekend Destination Village was opened to the public carried a strong message: sailing is for everyone.

Among the myriad groups of sailors from ages six to 60 were a group of volunteers who hope to open a sailing club for people with disabilities in Abu Dhabi this year.

Volunteers for DOSC Sailability, a non-profit volunteer organisation of the Royal Yachting Association, hope to help hundreds of people with disabilities in the capital.

DOSC Sailability gets Volvo Ocean Race shop window in Abu Dhabi

A tiny yellow Access Dinghy from Dubai Offshore Sailing Club stole some of the limelight during the arrival of Team Telefónica into Abu Dhabi on January 4th 2012.

Working closely with the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club, as well as the Volvo Race organisers, DOSC Sailability brought four of its Access Dinghies to the Abu Dhabi race village to shop window Sailability and help establish a local volunteer force and an Abu Dhabi centre for disabled sailing.

Dubai: The Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) wants to buy a boat. Not your normal type of boat, but a special one, simply because it has to cater to some very special young sailors from the Dubai Centre for Special Needs.
