Message from RAKSA:
RAKSA looks forward to hosting members and cruiser crew of DOSC in our Club on the weekend of 4/5 Feb 11. As well as a fine RAKSA curry, we offer our little beach for you to camp on and have arranged discounted accommodation at the Ras Al Khaimah Hilton Resort & Spa, just down our dirt road a bit. See below.
We also hope we can scramble as many of our sea going craft as possible to welcome you in on the completion of your rally.
The normal form is that we kick off events with a welcoming happy hour, followed by a RAKSA hosted RAKSA curry.
We’ve arranged with RAK Hilton discounted accommodation at their in town hotel (the old one) and the new Hilton Resort & Spa (just down the dirt road a bit from us) for 4 Feb, just in case there are members of your party who would prefer the comfort of a hotel as opposed to our lovely beach.
The rates would be as follows:
Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Hotel - AED 404.00 per room per night/- including breakfast in a Double Hilton Deluxe Room
Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa - AED 505.00 per room per night/- including breakfast in a Double Hilton Deluxe Room
Your fleet would be very welcome to use our Club zodiac as a water taxi.
Warnings:
DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in the Notice of Race, Rally ‘flyer’ or Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility.
It is for a boat to decide whether she is fit to sail and/or anchor in the conditions in which she will find herself. By initial entry and/or sign on, launching, or going to sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her crew is competent to sail and participate in them.
Nothing done by the organizers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the organizers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in the race and/or rally. This includes any time prior to during or after the said event. The organizers encompass everyone helping to run the event, and include the organizing authority, clubs, committees, sailing committees, any officer, facilitator, patrol boat, beach master, and any relative thereof.
Each boat is responsible to ensure that she is equipped and seaworthy so as to be able to face extremes of weather; that there is a crew sufficient in number, experience and fitness to stand such weather; and that the safety equipment is correctly maintained, stowed and in date and that the crew know how to use it.
- RAKSA lagoon entrance is tide dependent. Best entry time may be considered to be 3 hours either side HW, depending on draft. Click here to see this on Google Maps.
- RAK tide tables forecast Friday 4th February to be a Spring tide with LW time of approx 0603L and tide height of 0.68m. HW time of 12:15 and tide height of 2.05m
- Approach to entry channel should be made from north, due sand bar/shallow water to south of entrance. Remain in mid channel all the way in.
- Strong onshore winds and/or heavy swell can make entry hazardous.
- Due sandy sea bed and recent dredging within lagoon, anchor holding should be considered ‘reasonable’
- An overhead telephone/electrical cable, air draft less than 7m, exists across the entrance into the inner lagoon. (Marked with ‘no entry’ sign on attached map). Access to RAKSA club house only possible by tender).
