Now that the sailing sessions at DOSC are over it is time to gear up for the Garage Sale on June 4. Please find attached the Garage Sale flier.
For those of you who are still in Dubai we would appreciate some help in getting the word out to as many people as possible. Please print the attached flier and put it up in your local shops, schools, etc. Give a copy to your maid, gardener, baby sitter or anyone else you think might be interested and ask them to spread the word.
If you have any extra wire coat hangers for all the clothes for sale, or plastic carry bags for the buyers to use to carry home their newly purchased items, please either bring them to the garage sale or let me know so we can arrange to pick them up.
All able bodies are invited to help set up the items for sale on Thursday afternoon, 3 June, at Linda's house [villa 55 47B street Al Thanya - the goal is to finish in two hours. The garage sale will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 on Friday morning - and if you are interested in helping out on Friday you will be most welcome!
This is a great fund raising event for Sailability so it will be really interesting to see how much we can raise!
Thank you all for your continued help! Hope to see you on the 3rd and/or the 4th of June.
Dear Dinghy Members,
There are a number of issues that have been brought to my attention this week with several matters regarding dinghy sailing at DOSC, condition of equipment and concerns over some lessons.
Without going into detail, many systems had already been put in place in anticipation of the summer maintenance period and some have been added in direct response to the feedback coming recently from the dinghy fleet.
Some of the actions being taken include the following;
Equipment for each fleet, will be consolidated into one place and should be easy for anyone at anytime to be able to locate any major piece of equipment they require for a hired dinghy. This is to include Optimist bailers to be taken out of the boats daily and stored in the club optimist sail store.
The layout of both club sail stores is being modified to accommodate all equipment.
The workshop will become a workshop only. No boat items will be stored here.
All spares and parts will be organized and then inventoried in order to make sure the bosun has the parts needed to keep on top of maintaining all boats at all times.
In the short term to address the mal-maintained club optimists, an emergency order of spares is being couriered to DOSC this week which includes mast gates and mast clamps.
An additional bosun is being hired as of July 1st to assist with maintenance. Ram’s role will then be to become more permanently on hand at the beach to assist lessons and hired boats with launch and recovery as well as additional safety cover when weather conditions demand.
Thorough monthly maintenance checks will be carried out on all DOSC dinghies, to ensure their condition and level of spares in stock.
I personally will endeavor to be more involved in assistance and supervision of sessions during busy periods.
A long standing battle to obtain VHF licenses is over and we have taken delivery of 11 VHF radios with 2 DOSC dedicated channels (just in time for the end of the season!!!!) This though should mean difficulties in communication during sessions should no longer rely on mobile phone and walkie talky next season.
All of the above, which are not implementable immediately, shall be in place for the start of the new season.
I would like to stress the importance of your feedback and the assistance it provides me in addressing matters when required. If at any time anyone has any comments regarding any issue whatsoever to do with the Sailing Department or sailing at DOSC, please feel free to contact me at any time. The issues raised over the past couple of weeks have highlighted some significant problems in the department which had been overlooked, and are now are being rectified, thanks to feedback received from you, the members.
Regards,
Joel Bryant
